Adventure Scenario: SPACE GOD vs. TENTACLE LORD
Attached to this post is a short scenario for use with this game. Here is the text of the adventure scenario as well:
SPACE-GOD vs. TENTACLE LORD
This adventure is for use with the game CITY BATTLE SCRAMBLE. A asteroid has crashed into the ocean, a sea liner has been hit and is slowly sinking. Survivors are pushed miles from the wreck and the asteroids landing zone by miles due to the waves. A massive wave is rippling towards the California coastline. The militarizes of the worlds countries are scrambling for at home responses to the natural disaster, desperately putting together the early workings of plans for what to do. But no plan will be sufficient once the asteroid starts… moving…
In this adventure the players kaiju’s have to deal with the following issues around the world:
- the sinking ocean liner.
- the displaced survivors in the water.
- the tidal wave coming towards California’s coastline.
Just as one of those issues becomes solved, the following occurs:
- The U.S. military advances against the player kaijus. (Pacified or Convinced to have Restraint)
- The water around the asteroid begins to boil. (Harm Avoided)
- The kaiju receive a psionic attack from the ocean. (Ocean Investigated)
- The asteroid begins to move towards China’s coastline. (Movement Slowed)
Once one of these issues is resolved the following happens simultaneously:
- A giant undersea Psychic Squid Beast attacks the asteroid. It injured it when it boiled the water above it.
- The asteroid reveals that its rocky exterior is an exoskeleton for a bug based kaiju, similar to an armored preying mantis.
The final fight of the scenario involves the players engaging with the asteroid monster. In order to combat it, the players will use the information gained through playing the following human characters during the game scenario:
- Deep Sea Animal Researchers -> The Squid is acting in defense of its territory. Give it a wide berth and let it know that it is in charge and it won’t fight the players.
- U.S. Military -> Concerned about protecting its Carrier Groups. They’ll back down, for a moment, if it is clear that those carriers are safe.
- Cruise Liner Passengers -> Can see the asteroids legs, they are soft and squishy, bleeding due to scratching against the ocean floor. The shell is what protects it.
- The Survivors in the Water -> they see that the asteroid slowed down using some sort of air jets so that it landed softer than it should have. The air bursts can be used by the asteroid as attacks to prevent grappling.
In order to defeat the asteroid all of the kaiju players must work together. This final fight is not ended by damage but by the players using their wits and powers to put the enemy monster into a stasis state where it will no longer be a threat to earth this can take multiple forms:
- Flees the planet once they learn that running across countries won’t be enough to escape the players.
- Restrained and captured to the point of no longer being a threat.
- The asteroid is brought into the worlds ecosystem and shown how to cohabitate with humanity and kaijus (humanity must be also taught that the kaiju isn’t a threat anymore as well).
Any one of these can occur, but the GM should be open to other resolutions. As this game is primarily a storytelling game and less focused on mechanical conflict the group should keep the following genres in mind when playing through the scenario (think of these as tonal guiding phrases):
- The Ocean is itself deep and unknown. Even the mega monsters of the world can’t know everything about the planet they live on and protect.
- Cosmic Space Beings are Strange and Alien. Their presence has a strange effect on people and lifeforms that are unfamiliar with its type.
- This is a few against one battle, think of a team wrestling against one giant super wrestler. Coordination and combo moves are key.
